OUR SQUADS
Tonbridge Swimming Club squad structure is based on the Swim England Optimal Athlete Development Framework in tandem with the Athlete Development Support Pathway (an upgraded version of Long term Athlete Development). The aim of the structure is to provide swimmers with the appropriate level of training for their age and ability. The key considerations are of which progressive development and optimal training windows of opportunity related to physical considerations. The club was chosen as a pilot for the Swim England Club Awards in late 2017 and now has adopted this pathway (in conjunction with the existing NPTS framework).
OUR COACHES
Our aim is to provide a safe and healthy environment for the coaching and development of swimming and to provide the opportunity and the encouragement which enables all of its members to reach their full potential within the sport of swimming wether for fitness or for competition.
We believe that there are many benefits to be gained from participating in organised sport and our objective is to provide a situation in which every member can achieve success and attain their full potential as a swimmer and as a person.
The coaching team follows the Athlete Development Support Pathway designed to develop athletes that have the skills, characteristics and behaviours to thrive in the highest competitive arenas.
Ensuring that children are safeguarded is a key part of how our coaching team operates and works to provide a safe, happy and fun environment in which children can learn to swim and develop their skills.
All our lead coaching staff are qualified Swim England swimming coaches/teachers, and are fully DBS checked in relation to working with children. In order to maintain the best training environment for each child, the coaching staff are all committed to using their knowledge of swimming in a positive and enthusiastic fashion, and by adhering to the ATSC Code of Conduct.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Tonbridge Swimming Club. They support our swimmers, coaches and events across the country and without them we would simply not be able to carry on! Whether you get involved in volunteering an hour or 100 hours, your contribution goes along way to inspiring more people to get in the water and take part.
Volunteering is hugely rewarding, for some it gives them an opportunity to learn new skills and build confidence, for others it helps to improve health and wellbeing, and for many it is the joy and satisfaction gained from helping others or ‘giving something back’ to your sport.
Other reasons to get involved:
- Personal skill development
- Be part of a community
- Contribute to the development and engagement of individuals in sport
- Opportunities to access Swim England Qualifications
- Access to volunteering opportunities at national events and championships
